Professor Misha Teramura Appointed Director of CRRS

Jun 24, 2025

Professor Misha Teramura has been appointed director of the Centre for Renaissance and Reformation Studies at Victoria College for a five-year term starting in July.

Teramura is no stranger to the CRRS, a research and teaching centre with a library devoted to the study of the years 1350 to 1700. He has been a driving force in forging connections between faculty and graduate students, a frequent contributor to talks and events, and a member of its executive committee.

Teramura is an associate professor in the U of T Department of English. His research focuses on early modern English drama, book history, theatre history, manuscript culture and textual editing.

His award-winning scholarship has appeared in such journals as Shakespeare Quarterly, ELH, Modern Philology, English Literary Renaissance, RES and The Chaucer Review, as well as in the edited collections Lost Plays in Shakespeare’s England, Loss and the Literary Culture of Shakespeare’s Time and Shakespeare/Text

He is a fellow of the Royal Historical Society, a co-editor of the Lost Plays Database and an alumnus of Victoria College.

The CRRS supervises an undergraduate program in Renaissance studies at Victoria College, organized lectures and seminars and maintains an active series of publications. The centre's collection of early editions of Erasmus, the Dutch humanist considered the greatest scholar of northern Renaissance, is one of the strongest in the world.

“The search committee noted Prof. Teramura’s impressive knowledge of the centre’s history and operations, as well as the high esteem with which he is held by the broader CRRS and early modern community, citing both as proof of his preparedness and capacity to lead,” said Victoria College Principal Alex Hernandez. “Under his leadership, CRRS is poised to expand its reach in the field, and we look forward to how he will shape the next chapter in the centre’s august history.”
