Established in 1971 by the Governing Council which oversees the affairs of the University of Toronto, the College of Electors is responsible for electing the University’s Chancellor and the eight alumni members of the Governing Council. The 45 College members are elected or appointed by U of T’s alumni associations and serve a four-year term that begins on July 1. College members must acquaint themselves with how the Governing Council and its Boards and Committees function and what is required from its alumni governors.
The College of Electors meets five times a year for two or three hours. Victoria has three representatives on the College of Electors. Currently they are Diane Dyer Vic 6T2, David E. Clark Vic 7T1, and John Richardson Vic 7T1. For more information, you may go to the College of Elector’s web-site at www.governingcouncil.utoronto.ca/bac/ce.htm and also contact the Vic Alumni Association at vic.alumni@utoronto.ca.
Volunteer Opportunity: Governing Council
The Governing Council of the University of Toronto oversees the University’s academic, business, and student affairs. Of the 50-member Council, 8 are alumni. While volunteering on this influential body requires a significant time commitment - a minimum of 150 hours a year, it is a very satisfying way of serving your University. Please note as an alumni member you must be a Canadian citizen and active in the community and/or University. Alumni members may not be students, nor members of the faculty or administrative staff. Governing Council members should also reflect the diversity found at the University.
