Congratulations to: Allen Tomlinson for his winning painting of Old Vic., with an honourable mention Delza Longman.

For photography depicting student life, the winner is Leah Emmerson, with an honourable mention to Sarah Berger.

For photography depicting campus, the winner is Anne Greschuk, with an honourable mention to Leah Emmerson.

For each of the three categories, Old Vic, Vic campus or Vic student life, a cash prize of $500 was awarded. The winners were named at Vic’s 175th Anniversary Gala at the ROM, October 13, 2011.

In honour of Victoria University’s 175th Anniversary Celebration, Vic hosted two visual arts competitions  (details and contest regulations, below). The Art & Photograph Contests were open to all university alumni, students, faculty and staff. Visual artists were asked to feature Old Vic as the main subject, although any medium (pen and ink, charcoal, watercolour, acrylic, etc.) was acceptable. Photographers were asked to base their work on Vic campus or Vic student life. The committee was thrilled to receive over 40 entries from the entire Vic community. The range in talent and perspective was overwhelming.

On September 27, 2011, a panel of judges viewed all works and selected the winners. The panel included Lorraine Richard, Eldon Garnet, Gillian Pearson and David Silcox.

  1. Lorraine Richard: Chair of the Art & Photo Contests.
  2. Eldon Garnet: A multidisciplinary artist and novelist based in Toronto and a professor at the Ontario College of Art and Design.
  3. Gillian Pearson: Executive assistant & curator at Victoria University.
  4. David Silcox: Writer, educator, cultural administrator and arts advocate, and currently the president of Sotheby’s Canada.
