Reporting to the Director of Physical Plant, the incumbent is responsible for the planning, financial and human resources management and leadership of the Maintenance, Housekeeping and Grounds operations. The incumbent develops procedures and processes and oversees all the department operations, has budgetary responsibility and supervises staff that includes managers, lead hands and line staff. The incumbent is responsible for identifying and implementing innovative work processes using current and leading edge technologies for all systems related to the physical plant, grounds and caretaking operations. The incumbent will also act as a lead project manager for capital, maintenance and grounds projects. Assumes the role of Acting Director of Physical Plant in the absence of the Director.
University degree plus completion of a college diploma in the field of electrical or mechanical engineering, landscape architecture, architecture or equivalent. Formal qualifications in business management, human resource management and project management are desired.
7 years’ experience in a comprehensive institutional campus setting as a facilities or campus manager with grounds management experience.
Knowledge of building automation, barrier free design, AODA and associated legislation, fire prevention, Occupational Health and Safety Act, hazardous material, energy management, budget forecasting, Ontario Building and Fire code. Must have a proven track record of progressively responsible management roles. Must be able to supervise, motivate and mentor a diverse team. Must be able to manage multiple and changing priorities; work to deadlines; willing to work variable hours; be creative; able to execute change. Must have a strong commitment to client service, sustainable approaches and negotiating skills. Must have advanced communication skills both verbal and written. Must be able to prepare detailed technical reports and present them to the Board of Regents and its committees when required.
