Position Summary:

The Director of the Office of the President, works in close partnership with the President and with other staff in the President’s Office and has responsibility for facilitating and implementing the administration of priorities and directions set by the President. The Director’s duties demand a high level of responsibility, judgement, diplomacy, tact, persuasiveness and responsiveness in addition to superior communication, project management and organizational skills to ensure that the Office of the President is effective in achieving its goals.


The key areas of responsibility of the Director include: management of the Office of the President including oversight of financial resources and human resource activities; assisting and supporting in the creation and advancement of strategic initiatives of the University with research, collection and analysis of program and planning information; manage and implement politically sensitive special projects; briefing the President on key issues; providing oversight and leadership for the effective planning and execution of campus wide events; and representing the Office of the President on various committees and meetings.


Working with considerable independence, the Director of the Office of the President, fulfills an important role, enabling the President to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders. The President’s role includes involvement in all aspects of the University including both colleges as well as relations with, the University of Toronto, the Toronto School of Theology and other departments and centers located at Victoria.


The Director of the Office of the President’s role is a strategic and facilitative one that requires an individual that is willing to play an active, behind-the-scenes role.

Qualifications Required



Post graduate degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.



Minimumof 5 – 7 years of progressive experience in a senior administrative positionsupporting an executive or a managerial role preferably in a complex orUniversity setting; knowledge of University governance, activities andenvironment; understanding of protocol. Proven administrative and management experience.Proven financial experience in budgeting. Experience with strategic planning,implementation,analysis, research, and providing risk assessments. Experience liaising withsenior administrators, responding to and handling matters of complex andsensitive nature. 


Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage, secure support, commitment and results from others all with the proven experience in creating a positive working environment. Excellent listening skills, proven skills in developing and implementing objectives under competing priorities and deferred timelines. Demonstrated interpersonal, leadership, organizational skills with the ability to engage, secure support, commitment and results from others; effective problem-solving and sound decision-making. A consultative style with good listening skills.


Strong organizational and problem solving abilities with political acumen, a team player, and an attitude that will always find a way forward. Tact and sensitivity in dealing with varied clientele, flexibility, initiative,creativity and attention to detail. Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across departments in a fast paced environment with changing and competing priorities. Able to successfully navigate within varying degrees of ambiguity and maintain strict standards of confidentiality. Strong strategic analysis skills; precision of thought and attention to detail, a sense of process.
